The sun causes major interior fading problems for many homeowners. From damaged flooring and furniture, to faded artwork. This results in expensive restorations and replacement costs. This can be avoided with properly selected window film and expert installation. But what causes interior fading in the first place?
40% of fading is caused by Ultraviolet (UV) light. While we cannot see UV light, it is the same light that causes sunburns. Window tint will eliminate 99% of the UV light entering your home.
- 25% is caused by heat. We often have “hot spots” in our home. These areas are naturally prone to overheat due to the quantity of windows and their placement in the home. The increased heat in these areas will more rapidly break down paints, pigments and stains. Window tint will drastically reduce the heat, which helps to solve this problem.
- Another 25% of interior fading is caused by visible light. These are the sun rays that you can actually see. Visible light accelerates the rate at which items fade but window film can also solve this problem. The type of window film that you select will determine how much visible light you remove from your home.
- The final 10% of fading is caused by normal wear and tear. Use of your furniture, humidity in the air and cleaning of upholstery also contribute to the fading factor. While window film will not address this issue, it is by far the smallest factor contributing to interior fading.
All but #4 can be prevented or greatly reduced by having properly selected window film installed by a professional. There are MANY variations of window film available and, like everything else, they are not created equally. Special care needs to go into determining what film will produce the desired and necessary results.
